Welcome to the Neuroscience Degree Program

私たちのニューロサイエンス学位プログラムは，国際標準の「ニューロサイエンス」の大学院教育課程として2020年4月にスタートしました。現在のニューロサイエンスは、脳の構造や機能を記述し理解するだけの学問ではありません。その研究対象は、心の働きのメカニズム解明、病気の診断や治療の開発、更には複雑な人間関係や社会の在り方の原理の理解にまで及び、様々な研究分野の方法論を統合して研究が進められるようになってきています。また、これらの問題の解決に社会から寄せられる期待も非常に大きく、海外の大学や研究機関では既にニューロサイエンスの専門家養成コースが用意され多くの人材を輩出しています。
今回、筑波大学ではニューロサイエンスのエキスパート養成の社会的要請に応えるため、基礎神経科学、心理学、行動学を専門とする研究者に加え、臨床医学（精神神経医学）、臨床障害科学、生物学，農学，獣医学，工学などを専門とする研究者・臨床家が集結し、広範な研究フィールドを基盤として、「ニューロサイエンス」分野の国際競争力を持つ人材育成を推進することになりました。
本プログラムは、何よりもまず世界に通用するレベルの研究を行い、成果を世界に発信できるように高度の研究力と語学力・コミュニケーション能力を持った人材の育成に取り組みます。同時に、修士課程・博士課程卒業後のキャリアパス構築のために企業でのインターンシップや国内外の研究者によるセミナー、懇談会なども豊富に用意されています。
『ニューロサイエンスのエキスパート』を目指す皆さんに必要なのは好奇心と前向きな気持ちです。知識や経験の不足を心配することはありません。それらはニューロサイエンス学位プログラムの教育課程で必ず獲得することができます。ニューロサイエンスに関心のある皆さんの参加を心よりお待ちしています。

The Neuroscience Degree Program was launched in April 2020 as an internationally standardized graduate program dedicated to advanced education and research in neuroscience.
Contemporary neuroscience has evolved far beyond a discipline that merely describes the structure and function of the brain. It now encompasses the elucidation of mental processes, the development of diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for neurological and psychiatric disorders, and the exploration of principles underlying complex human behavior, relationships, and society. As the field continues to expand, it increasingly integrates methodologies and perspectives from diverse disciplines, and societal expectations for scientific solutions to these challenges are growing rapidly.
In response to these global trends, many leading universities and research institutions worldwide have established specialized neuroscience training programs and are actively cultivating highly skilled professionals. At the University of Tsukuba, researchers in basic neuroscience, psychology, and behavioral science collaborate closely with experts in clinical medicine (psychiatry and neurology), disability sciences, biology, agriculture, veterinary medicine, and engineering. Through this interdisciplinary framework, we strive to foster globally competitive researchers and professionals in neuroscience.
The primary objective of the program is to nurture individuals with advanced research capabilities, as well as strong language proficiency and communication skills, enabling them to conduct cutting-edge research at an international level and to disseminate their findings worldwide. In addition, to support students’ career development after completion of their master’s or doctoral studies, the program offers a wide range of opportunities, including industry internships, specialized seminars, and networking events with researchers from Japan and abroad.
Above all, the most essential qualities for those aspiring to become experts in neuroscience are intellectual curiosity and a proactive, forward-looking mindset. Prior knowledge or experience is not a prerequisite; the necessary foundations will be systematically acquired through the curriculum of the Neuroscience Degree Program.
